Salt Lake County's Top-rated Clinic for Integrative Medicine
Written by Dr. Alec Laracuente, NMD, PhD and Dr. Steven Chalk, DC · Freedom Integrated Medicine, South Jordan, UT · Last updated October 2026
Freedom Integrated Medicine is an integrative medicine clinic at 4775 W. Daybreak Parkway in South Jordan, Utah, serving patients from Draper, Riverton, Herriman, Sandy, West Jordan, and across Salt Lake County. Our licensed integrative medicine doctors combine stem cell and PRP injections, chiropractic care, spinal decompression, and cold laser therapy into one coordinated plan for chronic knee, back, neck, hip, and shoulder pain, sciatica, neuropathy, arthritis, and car accident and sports injuries. More than 300 patients have left the clinic five-star Google reviews, and thousands have found lasting relief without surgery or pain medication. All three doctors at Freedom Integrated Medicine treat patients in English and Spanish. New patients start with the $49 New Patient Special, which includes a one-on-one consultation, a full exam, and X-rays.
What Is Integrative Medicine, and Is It Real Medicine?
Integrative medicine is licensed medical care that treats the whole person by combining proven conventional methods with regenerative and hands-on therapies in one coordinated plan. At our integrative medicine clinic in South Jordan, that means your doctor looks at your joints, spine, nerves, habits, and history together, then builds a single plan aimed at healing that lasts.
Patients who come to us from Draper and Sandy often arrive carrying an MRI from one office, a cortisone record from another, and a prescription list from a third, written by people who never spoke to each other. The knee got a shot, the back got a pill, and the person attached to both kept hurting.
The National Institutes of Health describes integrative health as bringing conventional and complementary approaches together in a coordinated way that treats the whole person across body systems, and that coordination is the idea our clinic was built on. Everything we offer, from regenerative treatments that help damaged tissue repair itself to chiropractic care, is chosen and sequenced by the same small team of doctors who examined you.
Who Is Licensed to Practice Integrative Medicine in Utah?
Utah does not issue a license called “integrative doctor,” so the fastest way to judge anyone using the title is to look at the license underneath it. Three kinds of licensed doctors commonly practice integrative care in Salt Lake County, and each one trained for a different part of the work.
License
What earning it takes
What it means for your care
MD or DO (medical or osteopathic physician)
Medical school and a residency, and some physicians add board certification in integrative medicine through the American Board of Integrative Medicine
Full medical and prescribing scope, and the usual leaders of hospital-based integrative programs
NMD (naturopathic medical doctor)
A doctoral naturopathic medical program, the national NPLEX board exams, and a 12-month residency or 6,000 hours of practice before Utah will license the physician
Licensed to diagnose and treat, and at our clinic the license that oversees regenerative injection care
DC (doctor of chiropractic)
At least 4,200 instructional hours in an accredited chiropractic program plus national board exams before state licensure
Specialists in how the spine and joints move and carry load
We pair the NMD and DC licenses on purpose. Dr. Alec holds his Utah license as a naturopathic medical doctor, Dr. Chalk and Dr. Creer are licensed chiropractic physicians, and the doctor planning your injections works from the same exam as the doctors restoring how your spine and joints move. Every one of our license numbers is printed at the bottom of this page.
How Our Integrative Medicine Doctors Build Your Plan
Most pain has more than one cause living in the same body. A worn knee usually comes with a hip that compensates and a lower back absorbing the difference, and neuropathy in the feet often travels with circulation trouble and shaky balance. Treat one piece alone and people feel better for a month, then slide right back.
So we treat the pieces together. Depending on what your exam shows, your plan may draw on several of these tools, all delivered in our Daybreak Parkway clinic in South Jordan.
- Stem cell therapy and PRP injections to help worn cartilage, tendons, and ligaments repair
- Chiropractic care to restore how the spine and joints move and carry weight
- Non-surgical spinal decompression to take pressure off bulging or herniated discs and the nerves they pinch
- Cold laser therapy to calm inflammation and support nerve and tissue healing
- Practical guidance on movement, daily habits, and nutrition that supports the work we do in the room
I (Dr. Alec) earned my PhD in integrative medicine and was the first naturopathic medical doctor to establish a practice inside a major hospital in Puerto Rico, working shoulder to shoulder with conventional physicians. Integrative care earns its place by working alongside the rest of your medical team, and the evidence supports it. A large Veterans Health Administration study found that patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain who began complementary and integrative therapies reduced their prescribed opioid doses by 12 percent in one year, well beyond the change with conventional care alone.
Integrative Treatment Plans for Five Common Problems
Here is how we usually sequence care for the five problems we see most in South Jordan, drawn from the patterns that show up in our exam room. Your own plan comes from your exam and X-rays, so read this as a window into how we think.
The problem
What we usually find behind it
How the pieces fit together
Knee osteoarthritis
Thinning cartilage, plus a hip or foot that has changed how weight lands on the knee
Stem cell therapy for knees or PRP supports the joint tissue, knee decompression opens space inside the joint, and hip adjustments keep the healing knee from being overloaded
Sciatica from a bulging or herniated disc
A disc pressing on the nerve root, often with stiff joints above and below it
Decompression takes pressure off the disc first, cold laser therapy settles the irritated nerve, and adjustments restore motion once the leg pain eases, as our sciatica treatment page explains in detail
Peripheral neuropathy in the feet
Damaged small nerves, frequently alongside poor circulation and shaky balance
Cold laser therapy supports nerve repair, stem cell injections for neuropathy may be added in harder cases, and balance work protects you from falls while sensation returns
Chronic low back pain
Stiff spinal joints and weak stabilizing muscles, sometimes with a worn disc
Chiropractic care and cold laser therapy lead, and decompression or PRP for back pain joins when a disc or ligament is part of the problem
Neck pain after a car accident
Strained ligaments and muscles that tighten in the days after the crash
Gentle adjustments and cold laser therapy come early, with PRP reserved for neck ligaments that stay loose or sore, as our whiplash chiropractor page covers
The order matters as much as the tools. For chronic low back pain, the American College of Physicians’ clinical guideline tells doctors to start with nonpharmacologic care and names spinal manipulation and low-level laser therapy among the first-line options. Low-level laser therapy is the medical name for cold laser therapy, so that guideline describes the same pairing we reach for before anyone talks about stronger medication.
Who We Help Most, and When Another Clinic Fits Better
The person we see most often is somewhere between 50 and 80, has been managing pain for years, and has been told the next step is surgery or a stronger prescription. Many have knee pain from osteoarthritis, a back that aches through every drive down Bangerter Highway, or neuropathy that keeps them up at night. Others are younger and still recovering from a car accident or a sports injury that never fully healed.
Integrative care has grown fast, and NIH survey data shows the share of U.S. adults using complementary health approaches rose from 19.2 percent in 2002 to 36.7 percent in 2022, with nearly half of them using those approaches for pain. That growth means a search for integrative medicine near Draper or West Jordan now returns very different clinics side by side.
- Hospital-based integrative programs usually center on primary care, lifestyle medicine, acupuncture, massage, and mind-body therapies.
- Naturopathic and functional medicine clinics tend to lean on extensive lab testing for hormones, digestion, thyroid, and fatigue.
- Musculoskeletal integrative clinics like ours combine regenerative injections with chiropractic care, spinal decompression, and cold laser therapy for joints, the spine, nerves, and injuries.
If your main problem lives in a joint, your back, or the nerves of your feet and legs, we are very likely the right fit. We do not offer acupuncture, IV therapy, or hormone care, and sudden weakness, loss of bladder control, a fresh fracture, or chest pain belongs in an emergency room today. When we are not the right clinic for you, we will say so plainly and help point you toward the right kind of provider.
From Your First Call to Your First Good Morning
Calling the clinic
Our friendly front desk staff answer your questions and find a time that fits your week. Patients drive in from Draper, Riverton, Herriman, Sandy, and West Jordan, and most reach our Daybreak clinic in 20 minutes or less.
Your $49 New Patient Special visit
Your first appointment includes a one-on-one consultation with a doctor, a full exam, and X-rays. We ask about your story first, what you have tried and what you miss doing, then test how your joints, spine, and nerves are working and review your X-rays with you.
Your report of findings
We explain what is driving your pain in plain English and lay out a personalized plan, with its timeline and investment, before you decide anything. We only recommend care we believe will help.
Your treatment sessions
Adjustments and cold laser therapy are comfortable, decompression feels like a slow, gentle stretch, and injections are done carefully with local numbing. Many patients notice easier mornings or deeper sleep within the first few weeks, and progress tends to build from there as the tissue heals.
Why Families Across the Valley Trust This Clinic
Very few clinics in Utah can offer regenerative injections, chiropractic care, spinal decompression, and cold laser therapy in one place, planned by one team. Tissue repair and joint mechanics depend on each other. A stem cell injection helps a knee rebuild, and chiropractic work on the hip and pelvis keeps that knee from being overloaded while it heals.
Our aim is to find what is actually wearing the joint down or irritating the nerve and treat that directly, so you can get back to the golf course, the garden, or the grandkids without surgery and without a growing list of prescriptions.
We are the top-rated and most trusted regenerative medicine clinic in Salt Lake County, and the proof is public. More than 300 patients have left five-star Google reviews, thousands have come through our doors since we opened in 2020, and our work has been featured in the Salt Lake Tribune, Deseret News, and on Telemundo.
All three of our doctors are bilingual, so Spanish-speaking families across Salt Lake County looking for medicina integrativa hear their findings and plan directly from the doctor in Spanish, with no family member left translating.
In Our Patients' Words
Our patients explain integrative care better than we can.
“I had previously been told by my orthopedic doctor that I would soon be needing a knee replacement surgery. The doctors at Freedom have been treating my two areas of pain for three weeks now and all pain has gone. I have stem cell injections in both areas, as well as chiropractic treatment on my knee and leg. I now walk, at a fast pace, most mornings around the lake for a half hour, with no pain or weakness.”

Google Review
“I have struggled with chronic back pain for several years, and haven’t had much luck with other professionals. But Freedom Integrated is DIFFERENT. Not only have they invested their time into educating me and helping me understand my conditions; they GENUINELY care about my progress.”
Brooklyn W.
Google Review
“I did try some medication and over the counter pain relievers and found this was just a bandaid, it didn’t fix the problem. After researching online I found Dr. Laracuente and Dr Chalk. Their approach to treating the problem has helped me tremendously, I am forever grateful for their help and knowledge.”

Is Integrative Care Worth the Investment?
Chronic pain already costs you something every month, even if no single bill says so. It shows up as another round of cortisone, prescriptions that climb in strength, missed work, and eventually the surgery consult you hoped to avoid.
The $49 New Patient Special is the smallest honest step out of that cycle. For less than many specialist copays, you get a one-on-one consultation, a full exam, and X-rays, so you know what is causing your pain before you spend anything on treatment. We present your exact plan and investment at your report of findings and answer every question first. You can also review our payment options ahead of your visit.
Integrative Medicine Questions We Hear Every Week
What is integrative medicine and how does it differ from conventional care?
Integrative medicine is licensed, whole-person care that combines conventional medicine with regenerative and hands-on therapies in one coordinated plan. Conventional care often assigns each symptom to a separate specialist and treats it with a prescription or procedure. Integrative doctors look at how your joints, nerves, and habits affect each other and treat them together.
Is an integrative doctor a real doctor?
Yes, a legitimate integrative doctor holds a state license as a medical doctor, osteopathic doctor, naturopathic medical doctor, or chiropractor, and that underlying license is what you should verify. In Utah you can look up any provider’s license with the Division of Professional Licensing (DOPL). At Freedom Integrated Medicine, Dr. Alec is a licensed naturopathic medical doctor with a PhD in integrative medicine, and Dr. Chalk and Dr. Creer are licensed chiropractic physicians.
What is the difference between integrative medicine and functional medicine?
Integrative medicine combines conventional and complementary treatments into one coordinated plan, while functional medicine is a model centered on tracing body-system imbalances, often through extensive lab testing. Our clinic practices integrative medicine focused on pain, joints, nerves, and injury recovery.
How is integrative medicine different from holistic or alternative medicine?
Alternative medicine replaces standard care, holistic describes a whole-person philosophy, and integrative medicine is licensed care that coordinates proven conventional and complementary treatments together. Integrative doctors keep your conventional care in the picture and rely on treatments with research behind them.
What conditions do integrative medicine doctors commonly treat?
At Freedom Integrated Medicine in South Jordan, our integrative medicine doctors most often treat chronic knee, back, neck, hip, and shoulder pain, sciatica, peripheral neuropathy, osteoarthritis, bulging or herniated discs, and injuries from car accidents and sports. Many patients arrive with two or three at once, which is where a coordinated plan helps most.
What therapies do your integrative medicine doctors use?
Freedom Integrated Medicine uses stem cell therapy, PRP injections, chiropractic care, spinal and knee decompression, and cold laser therapy, chosen and sequenced from your exam and X-rays. We also give practical guidance on movement, sleep, and nutrition. We do not offer acupuncture, IV therapy, or hormone therapy.
Does an integrative doctor replace my primary care physician or specialists?
No, an integrative doctor works alongside your primary care physician and specialists, and you keep your current medications exactly as prescribed. We are glad to share our findings with your other doctors, and any change to a medication is made with the doctor who prescribed it.
How do I know if integrative medicine is right for me?
Integrative medicine is often a strong fit if you have chronic pain or an injury that has not fully healed with medication, cortisone, or physical therapy, and you want to avoid surgery. The $49 New Patient Special is the quickest way to find out, because a doctor examines you and tells you honestly whether we can help.
What happens during my first appointment with an integrative doctor, and how long does it last?
Your first appointment at Freedom Integrated Medicine includes a one-on-one consultation, a full exam, and X-rays, and most patients should plan on about an hour. We start with your history and goals, then examine you and review your X-rays together.
How do I find trusted integrative medicine doctors near me?
Look for an integrative clinic with verifiable Utah licenses, a large number of recent patient reviews, a real exam before any treatment recommendation, and a willingness to work with your regular doctor. Be cautious with any clinic that promises a cure or quotes a treatment price before anyone has examined you. If you live in South Jordan, Draper, Daybreak, Riverton, Herriman, Sandy, or West Jordan, Freedom Integrated Medicine is close by, with more than 300 five-star Google reviews.
